Evolving Visions

The main theme of the exhibition EVOLVING VISIONS, which consists of works by five teaching artists and five selected students of the Department of Art and Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, the future art teachers, is the interplay between pedagogical and artistic approaches. The diverse artistic concepts of the teachers of one department are naturally reflected in the artistic expression and ideas of creative concepts of their students, creating a mutually permeable space. Through visual form, the exhibition offers opportunities to consider the influence of various teaching approaches by teaching artists, the relevance of their themes and expressive means in relation to the emerging and formative ideas and modes of expression of the upcoming generations. It also reflects on the general process of building on what already exists and the demands of current invention within the pedagogical process of a teaching artist and an art teacher.

MARGITA TITLOVÁ YLOVSKY (*1957) has long been fascinated by the possibilities of making the intangible visible. She is interested in the space of personal identity. This is also the subject of the exhibited work by KAROLINA JÁNSKÁ NEUMANN (1993*), in which she reflects on the power of innate characteristics, formation through upbringing and social influences. For VLADIMÍR FRANZ (*1959), landscape is a key artistic and musical theme. MARTINA TESAŘOVÁ (*1989) mediated the theme of jungle and wildness in her paintings, with a contrasting reference to the rationality of contemporary civilization. In the works of MARTIN VELÍŠEK (*1968), conceptual thinking about an image is directly intertwined with thinking about human existence. The prints by EVA VÁPENKOVÁ (*1979) show a characteristic preoccupation with transcribing traces of memory from a concrete landscape into a spatial composition made up of layers of abstracted horizontals, positive, direct impressions. JAN PROŠEK (*1977) works with the metaphor of landscape in motion. He relates the quality of the reciprocity between apparent stability and constant change to the position of individual human destiny in the context of historical events. The installation by KRISTÝNA MOUCHOVÁ (*1999) is a testimony of a personal relationship with the landscape of the Romanian Banat. MIROSLAV HAŠEK (*1988) has long dealt with the theme of reminiscence, remembrance, memory – both on a personal and collective level. MIKULÁŠ ONDRUŠ (*2003) presents his own interest in carving, inspired by Baroque morphology.

The whole exhibition can be perceived as a space of exchange of different ideological concepts and forms of expression, as a metaphor-fragment of the creative environment at school. An environment for the perception of one’s own themes and possibilities and their further realisation, an environment of continuously emerging creative visions.
